2013
- 2013 Employer Honor Roll (2013 Governor's Employer Awards / PA Department of Public Welfare, Commonwealth of Pennsylvania) The Fresh Grocer was recognized as an employer who realizes the importance of helping others, and was acknowledged for our initiative and leadership in providing families with the opportunity to move towards self-sufficiency through employment.
- 2013 Best of Show Merchandising Award (2013 National Grocers Association (N.G.A.) Creative Choice Awards Contest) – The Fresh Grocer unveiled a new, health-focused supermarket field trip program to educate grade school students on healthy eating. To promote this interactive supermarket experience, the "Fresh Finds Field Trips at the Fresh Grocer" campaign showcased the program as part of an ongoing initiative to decrease childhood obesity in their communities.
- Winner: Best Wellness / Healthy Living Event (2013 National Grocers Association (N.G.A.) 2012
- In 2012, The Fresh Grocer was awarded with a Certificate of Appreciation from the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in recognition of valuable contributions to the Northwest Philadelphia Regional 2012 Martin Luther King day of Service.
- 2012 IAJVS (International Association of Jewish Vocational Services) annual business leadership award. This award is given to a corporate partner of an IAJVS affiliate who has shown great leadership and vision by employing program participants and making a significant contribution to its community.
- 2012 Progressive Grocer Top Women in Grocery, Rising Star – Carly Spross, Marketing Director
2011
- The Fresh Grocer received the JEVS’ 2011 Business Leadership Award because of our fresh approach to hiring and training workers, our dedication in supporting our employee’s occupational and personal successes, and our recruitment and hiring partnership with JEVS.
- The Fresh Grocer received the Marriott Foundations’ Bridges Program’s 2011 Outstanding Employer of the Year Award because of our drive to take immediate action and recognize the strengths of individuals and allow the opportunity let them blossom.
- The Fresh Grocer received the Welcome Center for New Pennsylvanians’ 2011 Employer of Distinction Award for our commitment to providing and maintaining a diverse workforce.
- Honorable Mention: 10M-Nutrition/Healthy Living Event (2011 National Grocers Association (N.G.A.) Creative Choice Awards Contest) – The Fresh Grocer was recognized for our Supermarket Smarts Tour, a program that helps college students eat healthy on a college budget through interactive healthy store tours lead by a registered dietician.
- President & CEO Pat Burns was awarded MENtors’ 2011 Partner of Promise Award for his willingness to support a citywide effort to save Philadelphia’s young men, and for his financial commitment to provide resources to assist in making an impact in the lives of our youth.
- President & CEO Pat Burns was honored with Golden Slipper Camp’s 2011 Angel of the Year Award. Every year Golden Slipper Camp recognizes an individual in the supermarket industry for their outstanding community service efforts.
- President & CEO Pat Burns was presented a prestigious City Council Citation by Philadelphia Councilwoman Jannie Blackwell in 2011 to recognize his excellent service to the city and to the citizens of Philadelphia.
2010
- The Fresh Grocer received the General Building Contractors Association’s award for Best Commercial Project Under $15 Million in 2010 for the construction of the Progress Plaza Fresh Grocer location in North Philadelphia.
- First Lady Michelle Obama chose The Fresh Grocer at Progress Plaza as one of the first locations to launch her Let’s Move! Program in February 2010. The First Lady recognized The Fresh Grocer’s commitment to improving food access in underserved areas as well as our commitment to improving the health and wellness of our communities.
2008
- Best in Show (Supervalu 2008 Creative Showcase Awards, a peer-judged competition to recognize excellence in grocery retailing) - The Fresh Grocer was recognized for a body of work related to Loyalty Marketing that encompassed many aspects of store merchandising, marketing, consumer interaction and design that enhanced customer experience.
- 1st Place: Internet/Loyalty Marketing Category (Supervalu 2008 Creative Showcase Awards, a peer-judged competition to recognize excellence in grocery retailing) - The Fresh Grocer earned recognition for a loyalty card promotion that provides savings on groceries. More than 7,000 customers signed up for the program in the first three days of the program launch.
