We’ve got lots of ideas on how and where to use them (think salads) and where to get them (think locally) but first, we’re offering easy tips to get your summer off to an aromatic, spicy and nutritious start.

Herbs and Spices: A Sprinkle of Tips

Herbs and spices are a great way to spice up (and herb up?) salads, vegetables, soups, meats, fruits and just about anything!

The Main Difference?

  • Herbs come from the leafy part of the plant and may come fresh or dried (Dried are best added during cooking to infuse flavor; fresh are best added at the end or used in salads or as a garnish)
  • Spices come from the seeds, bud, bark fruit, roots or stems of plants and you will likely want to add them at the mid-point of preparation or when finished (it’s really up to you, and it’s a pretty fun thing to experiment with… enjoy!)

More Fun With Ice Cubes

  • Quick Party Tip— Combine fresh fruit and herbs in an ice tray, add boiled water and freeze in ice tray and amaze your friends with Strawberry-Mint or Watermelon-Basil ice cubes in your favorite Summer mocktails!
