To kick off things, let’s discuss ways to keep your New Year’s resolutions ALL year long!

I think it’s safe to say that 2020 was a turbulent year for everyone. Heading into 2021 with a clean slate gives us a great way to ring in the new calendar year – so it’s no wonder that many of us use this date to commit ourselves to making real, significant and lasting changes to our lives.

Some of the most common resolutions I hear are those that include weight management, healthy eating, and fitness goals to improve overall health.

As we approach the end of January, if you made any resolutions for this New Year, how are those resolutions doing?  Are you getting resolutions fatigue?  Do you even remember the resolutions you made?

If you have been keeping up with them, that’s amazing! A month in is a good time to re-evaluate and adjust based on your progress.  It’s okay to tweak your resolutions as you progress on your journey to change things up and give yourself a new challenge.

If you are someone who started 2021 with good intentions, but have already seen them wane, don’t feel defeated – you can still get back on track. And if you did not make any resolutions it is never too late to start, I’m here to help!

Below are three simple ways to keep up with your resolutions all year long.

Prioritize Your Goals

You may have written out a long list at the start of 2021, but over time you may have started identifying areas you want to focus on that are more important to you.  Pick one resolution from your list that is your highest priority, and envision how you are going to achieve it.  Working consistently towards one goal rather than spreading yourself thin to accomplish many goals will deliver more positive, lasting results.

Be Accountable

Personal accountability is important! Check-in with yourself and keep yourself honest in order to be successful with your goals. Keep a working list of your goals, set calendar reminders, and create a time-frame that works for your lifestyle.  Partners and friends can also help with accountability.

Be Flexible

Allow yourself room for flexibility! Don’t be too hard on yourself if you break off the path for a day or two, life happens!  You might not get that workout in or be able to meal prep how you planned, but don’t get hung up on it.  Instead, allow yourself the flexibility to accept things that occur that may make you stray from your goals. Once you shift to this mindset rather than an all or nothing attitude, you will find that you’ll be able to bounce right back into your path towards achieving your goals.

I hope that these tips above will inspire you to try something new and create healthy lifestyle changes.  As for me, I’ve also set some goals for the new year, and one of them (which I’m happy to share with you, as I want to be accountable, too), is to increase my variety in all things I do – especially my diet.

To help me stick to this, I have written a list on my phone of fruits and vegetables I have yet to try, so I will visit this list every month, and start crossing them off as I try new things! For starters, I plan to get creative with this recipe for Chili Seasoned Salmon Tacos, which is available online on The Fresh Grocer’s The Recipe Shop. Try them with me!  Plus, visit The Recipe Shop for more Fresh & Tasty Meal Inspirations!
